History Of Blackwood Court
Blackwood Court Phase 1 has it's place in history as it is the very first specially adapted housing in Scotland exclusively to rent, this meant disabled people did not have to live in institutions and even though disabled people could not afford to buy a specially adapted cottage or flat they could rent one, thanks to Dr. Margaret Blackwood.
Blackwood Housing Association was founded by Dr. Margaret Blackwood and is based in Edinburgh.
To this day there is no class discrimination if you can't afford to buy a cottage does not mean you can't rent one from MBHA.
Blackwood Court, which proudly stands high on the West end of Dundee, was graciously opened by Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, in late September 1976.
The setting promotes a sense of freedom with a panoramic view of the Firth of Tay. The challenge of providing an environment of liberation was successfully met by Edinburgh architect Richard Campbell of Ian H Rolland & partners.
Official word from M.B.H.A. on 15th August 2005 has it that Blackwood Court made history once again in the 21st century because "Blackwood Court RTO is the very first RTO to have it's very own Website!! You have set a New president!!" was the words of Elly Ravenhill the TPO.
On the 17th August 2005 we made history again we are also the very first Registered Tenants Association to have our own merchandise and screensaver's!!
